The Food
Italy is world famous for its food and rightly so. Dishes differ greatly from region to region and Liguria is no exception offering dishes from pesto to cinghale (wild boar) to the excellent seafood along the coast.
During your stay you may be lucky enough to partake in one of the food festas celebrating local cuisine such as the famous Stoccafissu festa held in Badalucco each September. Liguria is also home to the finest olive oil and a bottle of this is a must to take home.
As to meals; breakfast will be of continental style and plenty of it to set you up for a long day in the saddle. For lunch we often stop at the local trattorias where there is plenty to choose from. If we are riding high in the Alps or in more remote areas we shall carry packed lunches. In Italy dinner is normally an epic affair and during your stay with rivierabike at Santo spirito 6 courses are served:-
- Antipasti – a starter containing a selection of savouries.
- Primo - the first main dish, which is normally fresh pasta based.
- Another primo with more fresh pasta
- Secondi - the second main dish, which is meat or fish based and includes contorni (vegetables and salad).
- Dolci (sweet)
- Coffee and then finally knock yourself out with the local grappa.
- And lots of wine in between.
However sometimes 8 courses or more are served and in Italy its rude to leave food on the plate….so be warned!
