Riviera Bike News

Rivierabike rides with Nico Voulioz!!!

It was a very damp day in San Romolo but thankfully not much rain but plenty of mud.

Not only was the man himself here but also Remy Absalon and the guys from Tribe Sport in Nice.

Anyway Nico's Lappierre Spicy, what can I say, I'm pretty excited, the niggles I have about the current (but still awesome) Spicy seems to be addressed.

Firstly, gone is the qr rear axle and its replaced by a 12mm bolt through, whether it will have a maxle type qr remains to be seen.

The head tube, although it looks like a 1.5, its actually carries a head angle adjuster, so Nico can play around with different angles. Production versions are likely to have a tapered head tube.

The main difference is the shock housing mount on the frame, gone is the welded on unit and replaced with a bolt on version. This allows Nico to again play around with angles and BB heights. Whether it will be on production versions remains to be seen.

Also his bike had a carbon swingarm but also a standard HTII BB, will Lapierre ditch the press fit BB?

More pictures of a very muddy and blurry (I only had my mobile phone) Spicy are in this LINK

Finale Ligure May 2010 - 24hrs of Finale

Now in its 12th Year the 24hrs of Finale is one of the biggest biking events in Europe, similar to the 24hr events of the UK but without the mud and rain. The event will incorporate about 250 teams of solo, 4, 8 and 12 members, racing on an awesome circuit above Finale Ligure with great singletrack, climbs, the famous tobogan run and stunning views over the Mediterranean.

Not only the racing but there is plenty to do and see if you are a spectator with many of the manufacturers showing their wares, and of course there is the fly down show….You cannot miss Dangerous Dan and Eric “Stack” Burgon riding on a foot wide ladder trail 10 metres in the air and naturally jumping off it….truly unbelievable. On top of that you can enjoy live music, beer and fine Italian food under glorious sunny blue skies.

In our last race Rivierabike came 54th out of a overall 250 teams with a mix of riders from the portly on a VPfree (the bear) to skinny XC'ers on their uber carbon machines! We race for fun...but the competitive streak can come through, so all can apply. Rivierabike will have a team of 8 entered, or if you prefer smaller more competitive teams can be entered. If you want a piece of the action, please contact us, and remember places are limited.

The cost will be €645 EURO for the week. Click here for further info.

The 3rd Italian Super Enduro series

In 2008 and 2009 rivierabike helped organise the Italian Super Enduro series in San Romolo and Molini. After such a succesful event the race will return in 2010 with over 250 participants descending on both Molini and nearby San Bortolomeo and Finale Ligure.

Unlike the UK versions of enduro races, the European ones are more akin to rally's, where you have to pedal up the hills in an allocated time, but the descents (usually 3) will be timed special stages. This is the future of mountain bike racing from grass roots to pro level taking all the best elements of our sport in one great format. Rivierabike can organise entry for the race from a discounted cost of €20 EURO per person. For more information either contact us or visit the official site www.superenduromtb.com (site is in Italian).
